El Greco’s Portrait of a Man is painted in his Rome period, before he travelled to Toledo, and on a canvas with a pattern.
High quality photograph of the xray image was kindly sent to me by conservator Troels Filtenborgh from The SMK
while tracing on top of the pattern I noticed differently forms of the ‘main’ pattern.
